This whisky is the first release from our 2020 harvest of the old Danish barley variety ‘Imperial’. It was drawn from four bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks filled in early 2021.

The 100-year-old Imperial barley brings something truly unique — a character you won’t find in the highly refined modern barley strains grown today.

Imperial adds distinct citrus notes and dusty grain aromas and flavours, along with a richer, oilier mouthfeel to the whisky.

A vintage single malt

The old Danish Imperial barley creates a truly unique whisky. It brings perfumed aromas of ripe grain fields, fresh citrus, and freshly cut grass into the glass. This whisky is an example of a vintage bottling — all the casks used were distilled from our own 2020 harvest of Imperial barley. Vintage releases make particular sense with old Danish grain varieties, where we see greater variation from year to year depending on the growing season’s weather — unlike modern high-yield barley strains.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC

This whisky is made from 100% organic grain grown on our farm, Gyrup. Both the farm and the distillery are certified organic to ensure clean drinking water and good animal welfare.
