Discover Thy

What should you see in Thy? And what actually happens here when you plan a holiday in Thy?

Thy is Denmark’s first national park, but the area offers more than nature. Here, the North Sea, the national park, and passionate local people come together.

Tourist attractions in Thy are not about speed, but about place: the dune landscape, the sea, the local ingredients, and the people who work with them.

Experiences in Thy can be found all year round. Some visitors come for the nature of National Park Thy. Others come for art such as SMK Thy, for gastronomy in Agger, or to visit local producers.

Everything is connected.

National Park Thy and the North Sea

The greatest attraction in Thy is nature.

National Park Thy stretches along the North Sea with dune heath, plantations, lakes, and wide open landscapes. The scenery is not polished. It is raw and constantly changing. The wind from the sea sets the direction, and the light shifts throughout the day.

Many people visit the area to:

Hike in National Park Thy

Experience the North Sea and the wide beaches

Cycle through plantations and dune landscapes

Find peace away from the cities

There is space here. And silence.

For us, the whisky begins in the same soil. The grain grows just a few kilometres from the sea, in a coastal climate with sandy soil and shifting weather. It is not a backdrop – it is a prerequisite for making the whisky that defines us.

SMK Thy

SMK Thy is part of the National Gallery of Denmark. The museum is located in the small village of Doverodde in South Thy, right by the Limfjord. Here there is space for immersion and world-class art experiences.

The idea behind the museum is simple: to make SMK’s large art collection and our shared cultural heritage accessible outside Copenhagen.

At SMK Thy you can experience artworks from the national gallery’s collection as well as new contemporary art, presented in a very different setting from the one you encounter at SMK in the capital.

The exhibitions change every year and are shown in a reconstructed warehouse and in a distinctive grain silo.

The architecture, the fjord, and the surrounding landscape are all part of the experience, and the interaction between the artworks and the place adds an extra dimension to a visit to Thy.

Gastronomy in Thy – Restaurant TRI in Agger

Restaurant TRI in Agger is Nicolas Min Jørgensen’s gastronomic story about Thy – about the ingredients, the landscape, and the producers they call their friends. With the North Sea, the Limfjord, and the surrounding fields as their closest neighbours, TRI works closely with the rhythm of nature and lets the seasons set the direction.

In the bright and intimate restaurant with just six tables, a setting is created where the character of the region can unfold. The menu changes continuously so the kitchen can always work with the best and most relevant ingredients from coast, fjord, and land. It is a gastronomy where origin, relationships, and respect for nature form the central core.

TRI received its first Michelin star in 2023 and in 2024 was awarded the Green Michelin Star for its special focus on sustainability and holistic thinking.

Accommodation in Thy

Accommodation in Thy ranges from shelters in National Park Thy to holiday homes by the North Sea, smaller places in the open countryside, and traditional inn and hotel stays.

Some choose to stay in the middle of nature with dune heath and plantations right outside the door. Others prefer a hotel stay with a restaurant and breakfast as part of the experience. Both weekend stays and short holidays are available in Thy, depending on the season and the purpose of the visit.

Several hotels and inns in the area now offer stays where accommodation is combined with a whisky experience with us. This makes it possible to bring together nature, gastronomy, and the distillery in one experience – whether you are staying for a short visit or several days in Thy.

Holiday in Thy – Summer, Autumn and Winter

Many people search for “holiday in Thy” or “what’s happening in Thy”. The answer depends on the season.

Thy is not a destination with constant activity. The experiences are found in nature, in the work, and in the places that are rooted in the area.

Summer in Thy

Long days, trips to the beach, and hiking in National Park Thy. The grain stands green in the fields.

Autumn in Thy

More wind, deeper colours, and harvest season. Fewer people and more space.

Winter in Thy

Quiet on the trails and by the sea. The landscape stands bare. A slower pace becomes a different rhythm.

Distillery tour and tasting at Thy Whisky

One of the most direct ways to experience Thy is through what is grown and created here.

With us, the work begins in the field. The grain is grown organically, malted in our own malting house, and distilled on the farm. We work as a Single Estate – from field to bottle.
